
May Au Manion is a figurative painter working primarily in oil and in pencil. Her series, the Nadia and the Light of Dusk Series are executed life-sized.
May's work is motivated by a strong sense of compassion for people. Observing human nature's response to life's obstacles and challenges in this pilgrimage we call life. Where these circumstances may stem from political, cultural, social and historical upheaval.
To achieve images that are true expressions of her perception and interpretation, she prefers to work from live models whenever possible. Thus, creating works that are sincere, authentic and original.
A graduate of CSUC with a BA in Art, Magna Cum Laude, she would like to pursue a Master of Fine Arts in the future. More recently, she has won awards from local, regional and international juried shows. She is the recipient of the 11-99 Foundation Scholarship as well as the Sierra Arts Endowment Visual Artist Grant. Her works have been shown in cities in California , Nevada and Montana .
She is a member of the National Association of Women Artists in New York and the internationally known, Christians in the Visual Arts (CIVA) based in Massachusetts . Her work has been selected and is included in an upcoming collectable art book series featuring artists globally. Creative Genius is published by Masters of Today (MOT) Limited London , available in all major bookstores all over the world in late 2010.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the artwork, after commission, will be donated to a non-profit charitable organization at the discretion of the artist.
May, her husband Jim, and their youngest son reside in the Northern Rockies of Montana . They have four college age sons who live in various parts of the country.
